Reading Interest Survey

Reading Interest Survey

  1. How do you feel about reading? Tell me about it.
I love reading, but mostly topics of interest of course. Nothing beats getting lost in a book, being fully immersed to the point that you forget you’re even reading. This makes reading especially difficult and frustrating to me when it’s on topics that don’t immerse me. I often find myself at the end of the page, not knowing how I got there, not having absorbed any of the text. I have to go back and reread the text, often multiple times. I imagine this experience isn’t unique.
  2. What types of books do you like to read?
Typically, fiction. Books like Game of Thrones, Queen’s Gambit, Eragon, etc.
  3. List some hobbies and things you like to do outside of school.
I like to play chess, Magic the Gathering, video games like Hollowknight or Elden Ring. I also like to tinker on cars or computers, leatherwork, metalwork, and other random crafts. I recently started learning how to make espresso and lattes and such.
  4. Who are your favourite authors?
Christopher Paolini, J. K. Rowling, Brent Weeks, George R. R. Martin, and a few more that aren’t coming to mind.
  5. Tell me a bit about the last book you read that you really enjoyed.
I recently read The Night Angel Trilogy by Brent Weeks for the second time. It was a favorite of mine when I was younger, and it was nice to read it again as an adult. I was able to pick up on some tropes and foreshadowing that eluded me in my youth. It’s a somewhat typical hero’s journey with an edgy twist.
  6. Tell me a bit about what you have been doing since last semester during your winter break. How have you been spending your time?
I’ve been tutoring a ton. I’ve also been working to maintain my family’s property.
  7. What subjects or topics do you like learning about?
Maths and sciences generally. I also like learning about tech, history, geography, and historical figures of interest.
  8. If you could read a book about one thing, what would that be?
Dune is the next book on my reading list. A formative sci-fi from the 60s.
